Daria or Darya is the female variant of the ancient-Persian origin name of Darius. In modern-day Persia, the male variant of the name, Daria (Darya), is commonly written as Dara. Daria is a saint of the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches. In Modern Persian, daryā coincidentally means "sea". The male variant Dara means "wealthy" or "prosperous".
