Machismo is the sense of being 'manly' and self-reliant, the concept associated with "a strong sense of masculine pride: an exaggerated masculinity." It is associated with "a man's responsibility to provide for, protect, and defend his family." Machismo is strongly and consistently associated with dominance, aggression, exhibition, and nurturance. In most Latin culture, the man is to lead the family and enforces discipline. The man of the house is tough, shows no fear, and controls the woman and children. In other words, what they say goes. The men are the breadwinners, but the women are allowed to work. Although the main job of a woman is to be in charge of the children and household chores. This includes child-rearing. The correlation to machismo is found to be deeply rooted with family dynamics and culture.
